Diocese of Metuchen Receives Grant from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey
PISCATAWAY – The Diocese of Metuchen recently received a $50,000 grant from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey to benefit the Saint John’s Health and Family Service Center in New Brunswick. The center is operated by the Health Services Division of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen.
The grant will be used to bolster the fiscal year 2010-2011 operating budget for Saint John’s Health and Family Service Center, which provides access to primary and preventive healthcare and many health and wellness services to the indigent, uninsured and underinsured, living in the greater New Brunswick area.
“We’re very grateful for this grant from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey as it will greatly enhance our efforts to provide critical health services to men, women, children and seniors who are the most vulnerable among us and who otherwise would seek treatment at a hospital emergency room or not receive the care at all,” said Marianne Majewski, the executive director of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Metuchen.
The grant will support access to neighborhood-based primary healthcare and preventive healthcare measures offered by Saint John’s Health and Family Service Center, including clinical breast exams, mammography screenings, routine gynecological exams and prostate and colorectal screenings. It will also help the facility to provide patient outreach, referral and tracking services; promote age-appropriate immunizations; and maintain licensing and accreditation standards for the health center and laboratory services.
On average, the health center schedules 6,000 appointments annually. The grant provided by The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey will help maintain the hours of operation necessary to meet the need for services.
