The Montgomery High School boys placed second at the Skyland Conference Championships on Saturday with 47 points. Franklin had 78 points to win. Roland Lu won the 55-meter dash in 6.4 seconds, and Rob Weimer won the high jump at 6-feet. Nick Tinsley was sixth in the high jump. Will Davis-Joels was second in the 400 meters. In pole vault, Brandon Smith was second and Rob Heebner fourth.
The Montgomery girls placed sixth overall with 29 points. Fiona Paladino won the high jump with a meet-record 5-feet-6. She also won the 55-meter hurdles in 8.3 seconds, and was fifth in the 55 dash. Addy Sonaike was fifth in the 55 hurdles and fourth in the 55 dash. Julia Saltsman was sixth in the pole vault.
HONORED
Beth Serughetti
The current West Windsor-Plainsboro North girls lacrosse coach was inducted into the New Jersey Lacrosse Hall of Fame on Saturday. Serughetti played three sports at WW-P before going on to play lacrosse at The College of New Jersey. She graduated in 1996 after the Lions went 61-0 and won four Division III national titles in her career. She was a two-time All-NCAA Tournament selection.
Also inducted Saturday was Becket Wolf. Wolf helped lead the Princeton University men’s lacrosse team to the 1997 national championship. The Tigers finished 15-0.
COLLEGE
Scott Heil
The Montgomery High School graduate won two events for the Loyola (Md.) men’s swim team in their recent 207-80 win over Towson. Heil, a freshman, won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:01.42, and he won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.85. Heil was second behind teammate Patrick Mukri in the 100 butterfly.
The Greyhounds, who are 15-1, will compete in the MAAC Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. on Feb. 17. Loyola is just outside the latest top-25 mid-major rankings. Fellow MHS graduate Nick Petrelis is a senior on Loyola’s team.
Austin Witter
The West Windsor-Plainsboro South graduate made 3-of-4 shots for six points, grabbed three rebounds and had two assists, a steal and a block in North Carolina A&T’s 88-70 loss to Coppin State on Saturday. The loss dropped the Aggies to 9-12 overall, 3-1 in conference.
Witter, a sophomore forward, is averaging 6.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game overall, and 7.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in conference games. Witter has started 19 of the Aggies 21 games and averages 32 minutes per conference game.
