Mr. Gilman, 87, of Manalapan, died Jan. 21, 2011, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Cracow, Poland, and moved to the U.S. in 1928. Prior to retiring, he was a chemist and laboratory director for Stuyvesant High School in the Bronx for more than 10 years. He supported most environmental and civil rights causes. Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Beatrice; a sister, Martha Jacoby; a brother, Irving Glucksman; two stepchildren, Paul Siegel and Ruth Botchan; and three grandchildren. A memorial was held at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by interment at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Marlboro.
