Bernadette S. Seda of Jackson has been named vice president and branch manager of Harmony Bank, Jackson. Her duties include overseeing the daily operations and staff of the Jackson branch, and developing business and community relations. Prior to joining Harmony Bank, Seda was the vice president and branch manager of The Bank, formerly First Washington State Bank, Jackson, for seven years. Seda, a graduate of Lakewood High School, attended Ocean County College, Toms River. She is also a licensed real estate agent.

Centro Properties Group announced that a 10,000-square-foot fitness facility, The Gym, recently opened at the Lakewood Shopping Plaza, located west of the Garden State Parkway on the northwest corner of West Kennedy Boulevard and Madison Avenue (Route 9) in Lakewood. Centro Properties Group is the owner of Lakewood Shopping Plaza and was represented by Ron Ruth with Centro Properties Group.

The Women’s Center for Entrepreneurship Corp. will offer a three-hour seminar, “The Sky’s the Limit: Clever, Unconventional and Innovative Ideas,” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Lakewood municipal building. The workshop will include a collection of marketing strategies and tactics developed by a seasoned professional with more than 30 years of experience in marketing small business products and services. The Lakewood Development Corporation (LDC) has awarded two loans to Lakewood Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) businesses: Lakewood Judaica and Prescriptions R Us.

Lakewood Judaica, a comprehensive Jewish book shop and giftware store, will be opening a store in Lakewood’s newest shopping center at 150 James St., at the intersection of Sunset Road and James Street. Lakewood Judaica was established in April 2010 by Aryeh Zak and Yaakov Dovid Orbach. Zak has owned and operated Torah Treasures on Second Street in Lakewood since 1991.

Prescriptions R Us, 301 Madison Avenue, received a Joint Participation Loan fromthe LDC. Prescriptions R Us, owned by pharmacist Vladimir Kleyman, will use most of its loan to purchase a delivery van and to increase inventory.

Prescriptions R Us, which offers free pickup of prescriptions and home delivery, provides a full range of pharmacy products and services including an entire line of prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, dietary supplements, and surgical supplies.

Howell Chamber of Commerce will host a “Lunch and Learn” networking event from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 13 at Federici’s, 6469 Route 9, Howell. The Health Resources and Services Administration, an arm of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, recently honored Ocean Health Initiatives (OHI), a federally qualified health care center with offices in Lakewood and Toms River, with two national awards.

Shira Meyer, an internist at OHI, accepted the FDA Office of Women’s Health Excellence in Health Education and Outreach Award; and Hannah Maldony, R.N., the Chief Nursing Officer of OHI, accepted the Patient Safety Pharmacy Collaborative Performance Award for a program that is saving thousands of lives each year by eliminating adverse drug events.

Moustafa Shafey, M.D., medical director of psychiatric services at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township, and Sharon Seitzman, R.N., B.S.N., executive vice president and chief operating officer of QualCare, Piscataway, have been elected to the Board of Trustees for CentraState Healthcare System.

Seitzman joined QualCare in 1999 as vice president of HMO operations and was promoted to her current position in 2000. A licensed registered nurse, she has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Seton Hall University. She served as co-chair of CentraState Healthcare Foundation’s Ladies Links For Better Health annual golf fundraising event from 2008 through 2010.

Dr. Shafey joined CentraState’s medical staff in 1992 and currently is medical staff secretary-treasurer. He also serves as chairman of the hospital’s department of psychiatry and director of the hospital’s electro-convulsive therapy program.

Board certified in psychiatry and neurology, Dr. Shafey earned his medical degree from Alexandria University Medical School in Egypt and completed his residency in psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Ill., then joined the faculty there from 1989 to 1992. He also serves on the faculties of CentraState’s Family Medicine Residency Program and the Department of Psychiatry at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center.
