Historical Society has new officers

Despite frigid temperatures on Jan. 23, nearly 100 people witnessed the Lambertville Historical Society’s annual meeting, which featured election of new officers and trustees and the showing of historic slides.
Society archivist Jeff McVey described each scene, some of which brought a few surprised gasps of recognition of self or family members in mid-20th-century images. Mr. McVey said local home and business owners have used the society’s archival photographs to authentically restore or recreate porches, storefronts and other architectural details.
The program followed a brief business meeting, which concluded with the election of the 2011 officers – Suzanne Gitomer, president; Irene Rudolph, vice president; Holly Havens, treasurer; and Naomi Drew, secretary.
Although relatively new to Lambertville (she and her husband moved in 2007), Ms. Gitomer is a "veteran" in the Historical Society. She served two years as LHS vice president and two years as a board member.
When asked, "why Lambertville?" Ms. Gitomer said: "I have always had an interest in history and preservation and love living in Lambertville in large part because of its historic roots."
She is the librarian at a middle school in Clinton Township and previously served as an English teacher at the school.
