Dayton chiropractor, Dr. Adam Grossman recently got a blast from the past when he was named a Division III All-Decade football player from his years as part of the Ithaca College football team.
"It was a very pleasant surprise," Dr. Grossman, 31, said of the honor recognizing his four years on the offensive line for the Bombers. "It is an affirmation of a good (football) career and a reminder of a great time in my life."
Dr. Grossman graduated South Brunswick High School in 1997 where he played football all four years and then went to the college in upstate New York because of the program offered there.
"It is a good academic school," Dr. Grossman said. "I fell in love with (the area) up there."
During his time playing for the school, Dr. Grossman, a captain of the team for two years, started in 36 of 40 games from 1997-2000 and was the first member of that team in eight years to earn honors as an all-American in successive seasons, according to the college.
During his time as a guard on the line protecting the quarterback and blocking for running backs, Ithaca set more than 30 single-game and season offensive records, college athletic spokesman Mike Warwick said.
"(My position and other offensive linemen) is a nameless job that doesn’t get credit too often," Dr. Grossman said. "That is why this is such a nice honor and I share it with the others on the line. It really honors all of us."
Dr. Grossman completed his undergraduate studies at Ithaca in 2000 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in exercise sciences.
He then studied human biology and received a second B.S. degree and a Doctorate in chiropractic studies in 2005 from the National University of Health and Sciences in suburban Chicago.
In 2006, Dr. Grossman opened his office at 395 Ridge Road in Dayton as well as maintained office hours at his father Bruce Grossman’s chiropractic office in Highland Park.
"It was a natural fit (becoming a chiropractor)," Dr. Grossman said. "Treating ahletes is something I love to do."
Although Dr. Grossman lives in Jackson with his wife, Renee, he said his heart is in South Brunswick and that is why he set up an office here.
"I grew up here, this is where my roots are," Dr. Grossman said. "This is a way of giving back to a town that gave a lot to me."
Dr. Grossman said he has worked with the school district to help treat the athletes and also has parents of his school friends as clients.
According to his business website, he has helped clients from infancy to senior citizens recover from painful conditions.
"I have used chiropractors to stay healthy and treat injuries," Dr. Grossman said.
