The fourth annual Princeton Jazz Festival will be held this evening, Friday, Feb. 11, and Saturday, Feb. 12, in the PHS Performing Arts Center.
The festival will feature performances by all six PHS jazz bands, the John Witherspoon Middle School Jazz Orchestra, the Cranbury School Advanced Jazz Band, the Hun School, the Lawrenceville School and 10 additional area high school and middle school bands.
The middle school festival will be held tonight, and the high school festival will be held Saturday.
The festival will feature clinics and performances by Grammy-nominated trumpeter Tim Hagans and trumpeter Marvin Stamm.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The Jazz Festival is a fundraiser for the PHS band program. ***
The Friends of the Cranbury Public Library are sponsoring a Valentine card-making program Saturday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children of all ages.
This is a popular, annual event and a great opportunity to create something special for that special someone! ***
If you are a Cranbury resident interested in the Cranbuddies preschool program offered by the Cranbury School district, you are invited to attend an open house Wednesday, Feb. 16, in room 11 of the Cranbury School.
The program for 3-year-olds will be discussed from 5 to 6 p.m., and the 4-year-old program will be discussed from 6 to 7 p.m.
Applications, program fliers and tuition information will be available at that time and also will be available in the Child Study Team office beginning Feb. 16.
A deposit of $100 is required with applications due no later than Monday, March 7.
For the upcoming 2011-12 school year, 3-year-old typically developing children are eligible to attend the Cranbuddies program Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The 3-year-old class also includes children who require a special education program.
The class is taught by a teacher certified for early childhood development and special education and a teacher assistant.
There are openings for four typically developing children. In order to be considered for acceptance, a child must be a Cranbury resident and eligible for kindergarten in September 2013.
Tuition for the year is $2,300, and transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
The Cranbuddies 4-year-old program will meet five afternoons a week and has space for eight typically developing children. The class, which also includes children with special needs, is taught by a teacher certified for early childhood development and special education and a teacher assistant.

Parents of preschoolers who may be in need of special education services also are encouraged to contact the child study team for further information regarding the preschool program.
If eligible, the program is available to special needs preschoolers at no cost to the parent, and transportation is provided. ***

The next program in the series on Celtic saints will be held this Sunday at St. David’s Episcopal Church, Cranbury, at 8.50 a.m.
Dr. Gordon Graham will give a brief account of the life of St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland, along with reflections on the spiritual lessons that might be drawn from his life.
A resident of Princeton, Dr. Graham is Henry Luce III professor of philosophy and the arts at Princeton Theological Seminary and has been an associate priest at St David’s since September 2009.
