The South Brunswick PAL 8th-grade girls basketball team remained remained undefeated in league play by winning twice last week.
In a 61-34 victory over Woodbridge, Erin Carroll and Erica Dwyer combined for 20 first-half points A jumper by Zojajha Ayub opened the game up in the second half as the Vikings rolled to the win. Leading the way were Carroll (25 points), Dwyer (20), Ayub (7), Janae Mayfield (4), Briana Davis (3) and Sunna Baig (2).
In a 43-24 win over Franklin, a Baig putback sandwiched between Mayfield’s six straight points and Davis’s five straight points gave the Vikings a commanding lead as they went on for the win.
Leading the way were, Dwyer (14), Carroll (9), Mayfield (8), Davis (7), Baig and Ayub (2 each) and Zoee D’Costa (1).
In the MSG Kelly tournament the Vikings won their opening round game 50-28 over Monroe.

Carroll, Mayfield and Dwyer each scored in the half to give the Vikings the lead. Layups by Ayub and Baig off assists from D’Costa widened the lead as SB never looked back. Scoring for the team were Dwyer (17), Carroll (13), Mayfield (12), Davis, Baig, Calabro and Ayub (2 each).
Felician College senior Devon Young, a South Brunswick High graduate, has been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Basketball First Team for the College Division in District II, as coordinated and selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
As a First Team selection, Young will move on to represent Felician on the Academic All-America ballot.
He was a Second Team selection in 2009-10, and is the ýPage=009 Column=002 OK,0010.00þ second student-athlete in Felician history in any sport, and first male, to be voted Academic All-District twice.
Young is Felician’s all- time scoring leader, currently with 1,814 points. This season, he ranks second in the CACC with 19.9 points per game and 15th in rebounding with a 6.6 average. A three- year Golden Falcon captain, Young owns a 3.70 GPA as an accounting major, and is also a two-time Arthur
Ashe Sports Scholar and two-time Academic All- CACC honoree.
The Golden Falcons have an overall won-lost record of 8-11. With seven league games remaining, they are in sixth place in the CACC North Division with a 4-7 league mark.
CoSIDA’s District II is comprised of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
The College Division consists of all non-Division I institutions.
