Chiu-Tze Lin, Music Director and Conductor
The award winning Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra, with music director and conductor Chiu-Tze Lin, presents its annual Family Concert on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at 7:00 pm, at the Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro, NJ. The theme of this concert is “Romance from Austria to China,“ and will feature the legendary violinist Hua-Yi Wang of Branchburg, NJ. He will perform the “Butterfly Lovers” Violin Concerto, one of the most well-known Chinese violin concertos.
Born in China, Hua-Yi Wang graduated from the Central Conservatory in Beijing. A child prodigy, Mr. Wang studied under the tutelage of the world-renowned violin pedagogue Wang Zhi Long. He soloed with the Central Conservatory Orchestra, and was appointed Concertmaster of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of China. During the Cultural Revolution in China, Mr. Wang was persecuted and served in a labor camp for 10 years. He was stripped of his prior post, but later appointed to be the Principal Violinist of the Children’s Art Theater. After the Cultural Revolution, Mr. Wang returned to the position of first violin with the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr. Wang came to the United States in 1985 and received a Masters degree from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. He studied violin and chamber music under Isak Vigdorchik, and graduated first in his class. J. Smith, the director of the program, wrote that “Mr. Wang is a diligent violinist with magnificent talent … He will definitely bring honor to the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.”
A resident of Branchburg, New Jersey, Mr. Wang has been an avid music educator for more than 20 years. His current students constitute more than 15% of the New Jersey All-State Orchestra strings (violin and viola) membership. His brilliant teaching style has been recognized by the Music Teacher National Association (MTNA) and the National Association for Music Education (MENC). Both the music community and his students respect Wang’s dedication to teaching.
Mr. Wang was a consultant to Chen Gang and He Zhanhao during the composing of the “Butterfly Lovers” Violin Concerto (梁祝小提琴协奏曲). It is among the most famous works in Chinese music and one of the best-known Chinese compositions outside of China. The piece is based on the ancient legend of the “Butterfly Lovers” and was written for solo violin and a western symphony orchestra. The Orchestra will also perform the popular Brahms Symphony No. 4 in E minor, the last of the Brahms symphonies. It is a composition of four movements, with moods ranging from the dramatic and passionate to solemn and then joyful.
The performance will be held at the Princeton Alliance Church, 20 Schalks Crossing Road, Plainsboro, NJ 08536. General admission prices are $15, $12 for seniors and students. Premium seating is available at $25 each. Advance tickets are $12 and can be obtained online via www.bravuraphil.org, emailing [email protected], or calling (609) 790-9559, (732)792-2070.
