AROUND CRANBURY: Relive Cranbury’s past at senior program

By Lorraine Sedor, Special Writer
”Rediscover Your Town’s Heritage” at the Cranbury Senior Center on Friday, Feb. 25, at 1 p.m.
Peggy Brennan, co-author with her husband, Frank, of two photo history books about Cranbury, will talk about what was involved in writing and publishing these books.
Peggy will show and discuss selected photos from the book. She promises these images will bring back memories to longtime Cranbury residents and inform our newer neighbors about the town’s past!
The Cranbury Presbyterian Nursery School invites you to join its celebration, “Love of Books.”
Tuesday, March 1, at the Barnes and Noble in Hamilton on Route 130, members of the CPNS staff will read some of their favorite children’s stories from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. They invite you to come in with your child during this time to listen to a story and do a little shopping.
If you use one of the book fair vouchers — obtainable from CPNS, the Cranbury Presbyterian Church office or from any family in the preschool — a percentage of the sales March 1 will be donated to the school.
If you are not able to stop by the store, any books purchased online from March 1 to March 5 using the CPNS book fair ID number will support the preschool. Simply shop at www.bn.com/bookfair and enter book fair ID number 10406114 in the designated field found on the payment page during checkout.
So be sure to join some of your favorite teachers from the Cranbury Presbyterian Nursery School, either in person or in spirit, for a special day of helping your child develop a “love of books.”
Save the date of Saturday evening, March 26, for the Cranbury Arts Council’s spring gala.
The event will include a silent auction and art auction and will be held at the Crowne Plaza on Forsgate Drive in Monroe.
Proceeds will benefit all Cranbury Arts Council programs, including the Middlesex County Youth Shelter Arts Outreach Program and the Cranbury Art and Technology Camp.
For information about the gala and all the council’s events and programs, visit www.cranburyartscouncil.org.
The Cranbury Public Library’s program, “Estate and Financial Planning,” postponed from last month, has been rescheduled.
Come hear financial advisor Andre Mento, attorney Rob Morris and accountant Dean Kohler discuss savvy planning and answer questions about your financial future Tuesday, Feb. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library.
The Artie Shaw Orchestra will be appearing in concert Wednesday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center.
Artie Shaw led several different big bands through the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s, always trying new music. A musical innovator and perfectionist, he was also an extremely talented clarinetist.
Under the direction of Matt Koza, the musical traditions of Artie Shaw continue today!
Tickets for the event are $18 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased online at www.princetonjazz.org.
The Artie Shaw concert is part of an ongoing effort to expose students to classic big band jazz music. Past programs have included the Count Basie Orchestra, Tierney Sutton, Wycliff Gordon and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Profits will be used to help fund additional music education experiences.
The Cranbury School kindergarten registration takes place Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. in the large group room.
Children do not need to be present in order to be registered.
Students must be 5 years old by Oct. 1. If you have not yet informed the school you will have a child attending kindergarten in the fall, call 609-395-1700, ext. 224 or 225, before Feb. 24.
