HOPEWELL BOROUGH – Two Pennsylvania women in their mid-20s have been charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief after allegedly breaking into the Storybook House on Somerset Street in Hopewell Borough, police said.
Lt. Lance Maloney of the Hopewell Township police, which covers the borough, said the women face additional charges of receiving stolen property.
Lt. Maloney said Officer Brian Dendis went to the Princeton Doll and Toy Museum, at 8 Somerset St., to investigate a report of a burglary at 3:43 p.m. on Feb. 6.
"A Hopewell Township resident advised Officer Dendis that he observed two women near the closed business, walking near the side of the building with two bags," the lieutenant said. "The eyewitness was able to provide a description of the women and the car that they drove away in."
Police learned that the Storybook House, next door to the Toy Museum, had been broken into and that items, including a Wizard of Oz lion doll, a Cinderella toy carriage and a Shirley Temple doll, had been taken.
A description of the women and the car was broadcast to neighboring communities. A short time later the car was stopped by police in New Hope, Pa., and the stolen items were recovered.
Danielle Messina, 26, and Nicole Dilanzo, 27, both of Butler Road in Chalfont, Pa., were taken into custody by New Hope police.
Officer Dendis charged both Ms. Messina and Ms. Dilanzo with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. Their cases will be forwarded to the Mercer County prosecutor’s office for review.
