Jewish teen group seeks new members

PRINCETON – BBYO, formerly the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, has started a new chapter for Jewish teens in the Princeton area, including Cranbury.
It is a pluralistic Jewish youth movement that provides social and Judaic programming, leadership and community service opportunities and more for Jewish teens in grades eight to 12.
At each meeting, it hosts programs with teens and participates in weekend getaways with members from all around central and northern New Jersey every two months.
Central New Jersey teen leaders have been hosting programs to introduce Princeton-area Jewish high school students to BBYO since November 2010. The Princeton Chapter advisor, BBYO staff and members’ parents have met and spoken with Princeton-area parents to teach them the basics about BBYO.
This is an opportunity for the Greater Jersey Hudson River Region of BBYO. Opening a new home for Jewish teens in Princeton is a long-awaited goal finally coming to fruition.
The group has participated in Mitzvah Day organized by the JCC of Western Monmouth County; run weekend- or week-long conventions based on leadership training, educating new members about BBYO, chapter bonding, performing arts and friendly competition.
Meetings are held at the Panera on Nassau Street on the first and third Mondays of every month during the school year from 7 to 8:30 p.m. There is no need to RSVP; all Jewish eighth- to 12th-graders and their families are welcome.
