This year marks the 90th anniversary of the Hightstown Memorial Library. To celebrate this milestone, the Friday Club is organizing a series of events. The first will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at the library.
Marita Ropars Robb, known in the literary world as Mariah Stewart, will present a program titled "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Writing a Novel – Don’t Be Afraid to Ask." Guests are invited to come with questions about the business of writing fiction.
Marita Ropars grew up in Hightstown in the 1950s and 1960s, graduated from Hightstown High School, and has become an award-winning, best-selling author of 30 novels. More than 7 million copies of her contemporary women’s fiction, romantic thrillers and romantic suspense have been published. Her works have been translated into eight languages.
Birthday cake and homemade cookies will be offered after the program. Although the event will be free, a reservation is strongly suggested. To reserve a seat, call the library at 448-1474.
Another event, the Big Library Birthday Party Saturday, will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16. This party will take place on the library grounds, and refreshments will be served. Local residents, particularly children, are encouraged to attend.
The Friday Club is sponsoring these events, in part because it established Hightstown’s first library 90 years ago. The club itself was organized in 1896 and became a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs that year.
