Desperate need for blood donations
PLAINSBORO – At this time, there is a critical shortage of blood in the metropolitan area and the Plainsboro Public Library and New Jersey Blood Services is holding a blood drive on Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 1 to 7 p.m.
Donors must be at least 17, weigh a minimum of 110 and be in generally good health. All donors receive free mini-medical exams and information about their temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and hemaglobin level.
Only 2 percent of New Jersey’s eligible donor population gives blood. The national average is 5 percent. Consequently, the supply for New Jersey is not sufficient to meet needs and thousands of units of blood must be purchased.
