MONTGOMERY – The results of the annual fire district elections and budget referenda held on Feb. 19 are in.
A $795,029 budget for the Montgomery Township Fire District No. 1 passed, 26-1, said Barbara Griswold, attorney for the Board of Fire Commissioners
Thomas Karsay was re-elected by unanimous vote, said Ms. Griswold. He was running unopposed for a three-year term for the only open on the Board of Fire Commissioners.
The budget for the Montgomery Township Fire District No. 2 passed, 26-4, said Ms. Griswold. Voters were asked to approve an $833,279 budget.
Leighton Laughlin Jr. was re-elected with 28 votes, said Ms. Griswold. He ran unopposed for a three-year term for the only open seat on the Board of Fire Commissioners.
Jay Kuser and David VanDoren each received one write-in vote, said Ms. Griswold.
When asked about the low voter turnout, Ms. Griswold said that all registered voters in Montgomery Township are authorized to vote in the fire district election and budget referendum, based on the district in which they reside. Fire district elections, in general, do not draw many voters, she said.
