ROBBINSVILLE — Police are urging residents to be vigilant and keep their homes, garages and vehicles locked after receiving reports of burglaries in the area of Meadowbrook Road over the weekend.
Police are looking for a man who attempted to break into the garage of a Meadowbrook Road home near Tantum Park early Sunday morning. And throughout the day Sunday, police responded to multiple residences on Tanager Lane, Meadowbrook Road, Amy Court and Witmer Way for reports of burglaries to motor vehicles and the garage of a residence that are believed to have occurred between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, Lt. Michael Polaski said in a press release.
A Meadowbrook Road resident called police at about 4:35 a.m. Sunday to report that someone was trying to break into the garage. Upon arrival, police searched the area for the suspect, who was described as a 17- to 24-year-old white male, 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a red and white thermal-lined flannel shirt, blue jeans and a ski hat.
Police called for a K-9 unit, which initiated a track that led behind some residences on Meadowbrook Road, but they didn’t find the suspect.
Victims of the car break-ins and an Amy Court garage reported various items missing, including two sets of skis, cash, GPS units, a black handbag and a radar detector, Lt. Polaski said.
The burglaries appeared to be linked but police had not yet determined that for certain, he said.
Lt. Polaski urged residents to lock the doors on their homes, garages and vehicles.
”The one thing that all victims had in common is that they did not lock up,” he said. “In addition, please call the police if you see anything out of the ordinary. Call immediately, do not wait.
”Finally, if you find that you are the victim of a burglary, please do not touch or disturb the area that has been burglarized. This will help investigators collect any evidence that may be in the area.”
