Congratulations to former Capt. Robert Buchanan, who was sworn in as the new police chief of Princeton Township on Monday evening.
Chief Buchanan is certainly experienced in police matters, especially where Princeton is concerned.
He is a 31-year veteran of the force, having worked his way up the ranks from patrolman.
The new chief is also a man who has studied the leadership and philosophical aspects of law enforcement, having attained a a bachelor of science in criminal justice from the College of New Jersey.
He is also a graduate of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., where the stated mission is “to support, promote and enhance the personal and professional development of law enforcement leaders by preparing them for complex, dynamic, and contemporary challenges through innovative techniques, facilitating excellence in education and research, and forging partnerships throughout the world.”
Chief Buchanan was also born and raised in Princeton, so he knows the ins and outs of the community.
And he is doing a job that he wanted to do since childhood be a policeman, as kids used to say.
He sees his role as maintaining the high quality of the department and its personnel.
And, after doing most of the jobs previously himself, he should be well qualified in that role.
We wish him the best.
