SOMERVILLE – The second public meeting for the Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Long Term Improvements Project will be held Saturday, March 19, starting at 9 a.m. in the first-floor conference room at 27 Warren St. Parking is available in the municipal parking deck off Veterans Memorial Drive.
The meeting will start with a short presentation summarizing the project, followed by a two-hour interactive design charrette that will invite attendees to help identify potential improvements to the corridor.
The Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Improvements Project will develop long-term improvements to Route 22 in Bridgewater between the Route 202/206 and Interstate 287 interchanges. This section of Route 22 carries approximately 88,000 vehicles a day and reports approximately 270 crashes per year. Some sections of the study area experience crash rates five times the statewide average for similar facilities.
“We want to encourage residents, commuters and anyone interested in helping to shape corridor improvements to attend the public meeting to learn more about the project and provide their input,” said Freeholder Director Robert Zaborowski.
In addition to the public meeting, a project website – www.route22corridor.info – is also available. The website provides an easy-to-use interface where residents can gain information on the progress of the study, be kept informed about upcoming events and provide feedback to the project team.
The Route 22 Sustainable Corridor Long Term Improvements Project is being administered by Somerset County with funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The study is expected to be completed by March 2012. Additional information can also be obtained by calling 908-231-7619 or emailing the project team at [email protected]
