‘Annie’ at HHS

Friday, March 4; Saturday, March 5; and Sunday, March 6 – The Hightstown High School Drama Club will present the Broadway musical "Annie" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5, and 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in the HHS auditorium.
All seating is reserved and ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. For the Sunday matinee, there will be a special price of $5 for elementary students when accompanied by an adult, with a limit of three elementary students per adult.

HHS Music Boosters pasta dinner
Saturday, March 5 – The Hightstown High School Music Boosters will sponsor a pasta dinner complete with salad, bread and beverages, prior to a presentation of the HHS musical, "Annie" (musical tickets sold separately).
Dinner will be served continuously from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors and students; $8 for takeout orders.
Tickets will be available at the door – Hightstown High School cafeteria, 25 Leshin Lane. RSVP to 443-9702.
Proceeds will benefit scholarships and the music program.
Senior Club meeting
Wednesday, March 9 – The East Windsor/Hightstown Senior Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the Senior Center on Lanning Boulevard, East Windsor.
Special program: Two certified laugh leaders of the World Laughter Tour, Marie and Marleane, will present "Gift of Laughter." Be ready for some stretching, deep breathing exercises and fun.
All senior residents of East Windsor and Hightstown are welcome to join the club. For more information, call Joan Gordon, president, at 448-8915.
Discussions for parents
Wednesday, March 9 – HiTops (a Teen Health & Education Center) will present two discussions for parents of Kreps Middle School students at 7 p.m. in the Kreps School library, 5 Kent Lane, East Windsor.
Dr. Elizabeth Casparian will present "Yikes, Teens are Doing What?" and Dan Rice will address the topic "Cyberbullying – New Kid on the Block."
The program is free and there will be a raffle and refreshments. This program is not appropriate for students.

Senior Health Information Day
Thursday, March 10 – Rite Aid will host a Senior Health Information Day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Rite Aid store, 191 Dutch Neck Road, East Windsor.
Seniors may have their blood pressure taken, learn about different blood glucose monitors, have their medications reviewed or any other concern they wish. Free educational material regarding shingles, diabetes and hypertension also will be available.
Vaccinations will be available for administration during this event or by appointment and are covered by many insurance plans.

‘Everything Beethoven!’
Saturday, March 12 – "Everything Beethoven!" a concert featuring pianist Matei Varga, will be held at 7 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 79 One Mile Road, East Windsor.
Matei Varga, a teacher at the Lucy Moses Music School in New York City, is established as one of the leading young artists of his native Romania. He has performed at major venues around the world including the Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), the Romanian Athenaenum and Radio Hall (Bucharest), and Royal Dramatic Theater (Stockholm) and Casal Hall (Tokyo). He has won numerous international awards.
A donation of $10 is requested.
‘Filled-basket bingo’
Friday, March 25 – The Ladies Auxiliary of Hightstown Engine Company No. will sponsor "filled-basket bingo" at the Hightstown Fire Company Banquet Hall (handicap friendly), 140 N. Main St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the bingo will start at 7:30. (Must be 18 to attend, photo ID required.)
What is filled-basket bingo? Rather than monetary prizes, winners will be awarded temed bskets filled with merchandise related to the theme of the basket.

Parent workshop
Thursday, March 31 – The Hightstown East Windsor Special Education Parent Advisory Group is sponsoring a parent workshop, "Preparing for Your Child’s Annual IEP Planning Meeting" at 7 p.m. in the Kreps Middle School Auditorium.
To learn more about the group, take part in informal parent networking starting at 6:30 p.m.
Environmental fair
Saturday, April 2 – An environmental fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in St. Anthony’s gym, 156 Maxwell Ave., Hightstown. Explore exhibits and watch a puppet show performed by Rainbow the Clown and Mr. T.
Students from Hightstown High School and The Peddie School along with parishioners and the Hightstown Environmental Commission will be among the groups exhibiting ways to help the environment.
Gardening techniques, Earth-friendly cleaning products. worm farms, composting, solar power information, water conservation techniques and ways to recycle will be among the displays. Admission is free.
Library book sale
Saturday, April 9 – The Friends of the Hickory Corner Library Inc. will hold their one-day spring book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the library at 138 Hickory Corner Road, East Windsor.
Adult hardcover books are $1.50, paperbacks are 50 cents to $1. Young adult and children’s hardcover books are two for $1, and paperbacks three for $1. There also will be some special books priced individually.
Proceeds are used to purchase new materials for the library and provide special programs for adults and children, including the Summer Reading Program.

Continuing events
Book donations sought – The Friends of the Hickory Corner Library Inc. is seeking donations of new or gently used adult and children’s books and media (DVDs, CDs, AudioBooks, etc.) for its one-day spring book sale scheduled for Saturday, April 9.
Proceeds are used to purchase new materials for the library and provide special programs for adults and children, including the Summer Reading Program.
The Friends of the Hickory Corner Library Inc. is a registered nonprofit organization, and donations are eligible for tax deductions. Note that all donations must be brought into the library and presented at the desk. Do not leave them outside or in the book drop since anonymous donations will not be accepted.
The Hickory Corner Library, a branch of the Mercer County Library System, is located at 138 Hickory Corner Road, East Windsor.
Community suppers – The third Saturday of each month, a free hot meal is offered to all who attend. The event is held at the First Baptist Church, 125 Main St., Hightstown.
Volunteers are always welcome, and donations are appreciated to support the purchase of food and supplies. Cash or gift cards (ShopRite, Super Fresh, McCaffrey’s, Wegman’s, Walmart, Target, BJ’s) are helpful.
A food pantry also has been established so donations of nonperishable food (peanut butter, jelly, soups, cereals and canned tuna) also are needed.

Senior study – First United Methodist Church of Hightstown will hold a senior adult Bible study with Pastor Heidi Bak at 10 a.m. every first and third Thursday at the church, 187 Stockton St. Call the church office at 448-0041 for more information.
Help for MOMS – The MOMS Club of East Windsor/Hightstown is a support group for at-home moms.
The East chapter is for moms who live east of Route 130 and generally meets the second Monday of every month at 10 a.m. at Twin Rivers Library.
The West chapter is for moms who live west of Route 130 and generally meets the first Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. at Hickory Corner Library.
The groups offer a range of activities, including playgroups for children, park play days, day trips, arts and crafts, and get-togethers for the entire family.
