The rain over the weekend caused road closures in the area.
The Griggstown Causeway, also known as County Route 632, flooded on the Franklin side. The bridge between Montgomery and Franklin was closed at 10:30 Sunday night. The majority of the traffic tends to use 206 to 518 to travel east, said Lt. James Curry of the Montgomery police department.
"Typically it does not take a lot of rain to shut down the Griggstown Causeway," Lt. Curry said.
Kingston-Rocky Hill Road, also known as County Route 605, in Princeton township was also closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday because of flooding in Princeton township, Lt. Curry said.
Signs were placed in various locations in Montgomery so motorists wouldn’t have to go out of their way to find out that the bridge is closed, said Lt. Curry, giving them the chance to make alternate plans.
Sergeant Ernest Silagyi Jr. of the Princeton township police confirmed the following road closures on Monday: Mercer Road was closed between Hutchinson Drive and Province Line Road from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.; River Road was closed from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and Quaker Road was closed 11:30 p.m. Sunday night and was still closed at The Packet’s news deadline.
West Windsor’s department of public works reported no calls for assistance related to Sunday’s heavy rain, according to public works director Alex Drummond.The West Windsor police reported that there were no significant calls related to flooding.
The Plainsboro police did not return a call by deadline time.
Here are some of the reported rainfall amounts in the area: Princeton Township, 1.95 inches; Lawrence Township, 2.19; South Brunswick, 2.34; Montgomery Township, 2.28.
