HIGHTSTOWN: Borough administrator resigns

By Doug Carman, Staff Writer
HIGHTSTOWN — Borough Administrator Herbert Massa turned in his resignation letter Tuesday and will step down within 30 days, Mayor Steve Kirson said.
Mayor Kirson said the borough soon will begin advertising for the part-time position, which Mr. Massa took in 2009 for $50,000 a year without benefits.
Mr. Massa was not immediately available for comment.
Mayor Kirson said the resignation was amicable and entirely Mr. Massa’s decision. He said Mr. Massa accepted another job outside of Hightstown, though he deferred to Mr. Massa for details on that new position.
”It came out of the blue yesterday, and he accepted this position a while ago,” Mayor Kirson said. “He seemed to be quite happy with the opportunity he was given. … I said I wished him well.”
Mr. Massa became Hightstown’s borough administrator after retiring from his dual role as business administrator and assistant superintendent for the Howell Township Public School District, positions he held for 28 years.
