Lenten dinners set at church

Beginning March 11, the First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville will hold Lenten dinners from 5-8 p.m. every Friday evening during Lent. The menu will be broiled tilapia Napolitano, flounder oreganato, linguini mare chiaro, linguini with marinara and linguini with meatballs. Children’s portions will be available. Meals include appetizer, main entree, dessert and beverage. Takeout meals will be available.
Columbia has Fish Fry dinners
Columbia Fire Company, 177 N. Union St., Lambertville, will offer its 29th annual Lenten Fish Fry dinners starting March 11 and running every Friday until April 22 from 5-7:30 p.m. Meals include: all-you-can-eat homemade macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw and fresh dinner rolls, as well as either fried or baked flounder, fried shrimp or a combination of the two. For dessert, there will be a selection of puddings. Prices are: Fish Dinner, $10; Shrimp Dinner, $11; Combo, $12. Takeouts are $1 more. Delivery to Lambertville residences is free. Children’s meals will be available.
‘La Noche Mexicana’
The parents of the Lambertville Public School’s sixth-grade class will host "La Noche Mexicana" – a special evening of authentic Mexican food and entertainment – from 6 to 8 p.m. March 11 in the school’s multipurpose room. Tickets are $15 for adults and adolescents, $5 for children 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and under. Tickets may be obtained from Ann Osborne at 397-3882. Proceeds will help pay for the annual sixth-grade class trip to Washington, D.C.
Blood drive

Senior Care Solutions
Hunterdon Prevention Resources will present a Lunch & Learn program, "Senior Care Solutions," on March 16 at the offices of HPR from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Pat Brightman, director of Community Relations at Chelsea Senior Living, will present the workshop. Ms. Brightman will discuss the options in housing for seniors, focusing on the differences between assisted living and skilled nursing for caregivers. Looking for a few good gardens
The Kalmia Club is looking for Lambertville gardens to feature in its 15th annual "Hidden Gardens of Lambertville" tour June 11. The tour raises money for community service efforts sponsored by the women’s nonprofit civic organization. Participants must be willing to open their gardens to the public for the all-day event, but club volunteers will host the tour itself. Gardens can be small, shade, flowering and/or themed. West Amwell registration
West Amwell Elementary School will hold registration for children who will be 5 on or before Oct. 1 at the school April 26 and 27. Kindergarten students for this September must be registered by April 1. The only registrations permitted after April 1 are for students just moving into the district; proof of new residency must be provided. Each child should have the following and proof before he or she may enter school in September – Hepatitis B vaccine, three dose series; diptheria-tetanus-pertusis, four doses plus booster after fourth birthday; polio series plus booster after fourth birthday; two measles-mumps-rubella combination shots are required by law; varicella vaccine, one dose; physical examination and birth certificate. No immunizations or physicals will be given at kindergarten registration. Registration will be by appointment only. Call the school office for registration forms and appointment times at 397-0819. Those who have relatives or friends whose children will be eligible to enter kindergarten in September should have them call the school office.
Rug hooking meeting set
The Hunterdon County Rug Artisans Guild will meet March 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the administration building within the Hunterdon County Complex on Route 12, Raritan Township. There will be a "Round Robin" of member-led demonstrations. The subjects will include Celtic design, pattern transferring, alternate edging, finishing a rug and basics of demonstrating rug hooking, followed by a "show and tell" of hooking projects that feature lots of green. Pasta dinner
The New Hope-Solebury High School senior class will host a pasta dinner on March 17 in the high school cafeteria. Open mike

Flea market set
The Ladies Fellowship of Sandy Ridge Church, 47 Sandy Ridge Road, Delaware Township, will have its annual flea market and bake sale fundraiser on March 19 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. A light lunch will be available featuring homemade soups.
Stockton PTO Rummage Sale
The 10th annual Stockton Borough School PTO Rummage Sale will be held March 19 and 20 at the Prallsville Mill, Route 29, Stockton. The sale will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, doors will reopen at 9 a.m., with all items on sale for half the marked price. At noon there will be a bag sale-$5 to fill a bag. Sandwiches, soup, and other refreshments will be available both days.
Donations of gently used items such as clothing, shoes, household items, linens, toys, books, music and electronic games will be accepted at the Mill on March 13 from noon-4 p.m., and from March 14-17 from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Donations are tax deductible; ask for a receipt. Large furniture, old televisions or computers, videotapes, old magazines, and items in poor condition will not be accepted.

Beef ‘n Brew
New Hope’s Triumph Brewery has teamed up with LNHARS to offer a Beef ‘n Brew – a benefit for the volunteer rescue squad – on March 20 from 5-8 p.m. The event raises awareness of the plight of the rescue squad’s diminishing volunteer ranks. Pancake breakfast, auction slated
The Jesus School of St. John The Evangelist will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day Pancake Breakfast (all-you-can-eat; take away available) and Auction on March 20 from 8 a.m.-noon at the St. John’s Parish Hall, 13 N. Hunting, fishing flea market set

LAEF sets annual auction
The Lambertville Area Education Foundation will hold its 10th annual auction and benefit party at the Eagle Fire Company, New Hope, on March 26. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature both a silent and a live auction, plus food and drink. Traditionally, the auction offers about 50 live auction items that sell for up to $2,200 each. This year, a Best of Live winner will walk off with his or her favorite live auction item before it is brought up for bid. Tickets for this cost $50, and only 100 will be sold. Best of Live purchasers don’t have to attend the auction to win. They can buy a ticket, review descriptions of all live auction items before the event and tell the organizers which one they want. These tickets may be purchased from any LAEF board member or by e-mailing [email protected]. All proceeds will be used to support programs for students at Lambertville Public School, West Amwell Elementary School, Stockton Borough School and South Hunterdon Regional High School. Art League meets

Baseball bus trip
The Lambertville West Amwell Youth Baseball-Softball Association is hosting a bus trip to New York City on May 29 to see the Philadelphia Phillies play the New York Mets in an afternoon game. The cost is $50 per ticket and will include transportation and admission to Citi Field in New York as well as sandwiches and soft drinks for the ride in. Free yoga class at church

Dine Out on Wednesday
The Lambertville Public School PTA is continuing its Dine Out on Wednesday fundraiser. Patronize local Lambertville restaurants every Wednesday from now through the end of April, and 10 percent of the bill will be donated to the Lambertville Public School PTA. Funds will be used for events, such as Field Day, author visits and school assemblies that foster team spirit, creativity and knowledge. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner at Sneddon’s, Ennis, Bell’s Restaurant, Tortuga’s, Rick’s, Marhaba, Anton’s at The Swan, Lilly’s Restaurant and No. 9.
Library Logo Contest
The Lambertville Free Public Library announces a library logo contest open to all persons 12 and older. The library has no logo and wants one that can be used on the library card, website, letterhead, advertising, etc. The person who submits the winning entry will receive $100 cash. Second place will receive $50. Third place and People’s Choice will get $25 each. Each person may submit up to five entries. Entries should be timeless and should include a reading/books/library or historic Lambertville/river town theme, either generic or specific to the library. Entries can be in color or black and white, hand or computer drawn. Entries will be accepted through March 31 and displayed in the library throughout April with the winning design announced May 1.
