A 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine on Feb. 23.
Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano said that his office’s Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force received information that an Hispanic male identified as Miguel Ortiz Perez of Brookside Lane, Hillsborough, would have a quantity of cocaine in the area of Farm Road. At about 9:50 p.m. on Feb. 23, task force detectives saw Mr. Perez walking along the road.
The detectives, along with Hillsborough police and agents from the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, approached Mr. Perez for questioning and he voluntarily turned over one bag of cocaine with an estimated street value of about $400, said police.
Investigation revealed Mr. Perez faced an ICE warrant for illegal re-entry.
Mr. Perez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, third degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.
Mr. Perez was taken to the county jail pending bail. The warrant was used to detain Mr. Perez, said a statement.
