The Lawrence U13 Wildcats girls travel soccer team opened its season with a 1-0 win over Moorestown Panthers.
Katie O’Reilly hammered home the winning goal from 25 yards out on a nice assist from Chloe Revak and Jackie Drury. The defense was led by Christine Scott, Anna Benvignati, Kathryn Svoboda, Raven Linton and Madison McDonald, while the opportunistic midfield was controlled by Nora Burrows, Yasmin Rubio, Hannah Zoll and Hailey Andrew. Sammy Schattin, Courtney Arch and Isabella Corcoran played great two-way while Abby Smith made seven saves to record the shutout in goal.
The U14 Tigers opened their spring season by tying the East Greenwich Emerald, 1-1, in South Jersey Girls Soccer League action.
The Emeralds broke a scoreless tie by scoring at the 25-minute mark of the second half. With five minutes remaining, Genna Baffuto headed in the equalizer off a crossing pass from Ashley Dindinger. Katie Roman had a number of keys saves throughout the game, while Megan Cerone, Jill Madsen, Sabrina Pascarella and Victoria Piazza had strong games on defense.
Baffuto, Jamie Bogdol, Dindinger, Maeve Humphreys, Rachel South and Lahtia Spivey controlled the midfield, while Stephanie Adamcik, Kyla Allen, Lyndi Giangrasso and Stephanie Turner kept the pressure on the Emerald defense and goalkeeper, out-shooting them by a 3-1 margin.
