Spaghetti feast benefits sign campaign

A spaghetti dinner will be held on Saturday, April 9, as a fundraiser to benefit the Manville Digital Sign. The sign will be placed at Manville High School and will be used as a community information board. The dinner will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the VFW Post 2290 on Washington Avenue, Manville.
"From what we can figure out the sign at 13th and Brooks was originally donated to the school from the Class of 1969. The sign is now in disrepair, hasn’t been used in two years and needs to replaced," said Lou Fischer. "The dinner is just part of the whole fundraising effort. We’ve held the dinner for the last three years, and seven out of the last 10 years, it usually benefits a particular school class or organization, this year we’re trying to expand it for the betterment of the school and town and I’m coordinating the entire affair."
Mr. Fischer, along with a small group of people, including the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ruberto, Mark Gregor, Lou Fischer Sr, Dr. Jim Brunn, Kim Clelland, Ed Komoroski and Steve Venuto are part of the Manville Digital Sign Committee.
"The spaghetti dinner has its own committee, including Mark Gregor, Renny Dilks, Joe Nole, Ed Komoroski, Ed Daisy, Ron Skirkanish, Jeff Skirkanish, Lou Fischer Sr, Angelo Corradino and myself," Mr. Fischer said. "We take care of preparation, set up and cooking and the girls from the high school JV and varsity softball teams take care of the serving. They did a great job last year and offered to be involved again." VFW Post 2290 is involved, too.
"The VFW is always willing to help when it comes to the community," he said. "They have opened their kitchen to us, donated the hall and bought a brick. I can’t say enough about the VFW and its willingness to support the town."
On the menu for the dinner is salad, spaghetti with homemade sauce, meatballs or sausage, coffee, soda and dessert. Tickets are $8 and $7 for seniors and kids and are also available at door. Takeout orders are also available. Advanced tickets can be purchased by calling (908) 625-1997 and the Manville Digital Sign phone line at (908) 722-7286.
"The goal is to raise as much money we as can for the new sign, and the only way we’ll be able to that is for everyone who lives here, graduated here, works here or likes it here pitches in and makes it possible. I think we have a great chance of succeeding if that happens. Someone will be able to help them with donating to sign, buying a brick or getting spaghetti dinner tickets," said Mr. Fischer.
