At its monthly meeting on Wednesday, March 2, the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance elected its officers for the upcoming year.
Meryl Bisberg was unanimously elected President of the organization. Bisberg, who served previously as Chair of the Communications Committee, is a longtime Hillsborough resident and has been involved in the community as a local school and scout volunteer, currently serving as Publicity Chair for BSA Troop 1776. Bisberg also chairs the Adult Education Committee at Congregation Kehilat Shalom in Belle Mead. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Oberlin College and has worked in Information Management and eBusiness Support in both the telecommunications and medical device industries. A lifelong Democrat, she became very involved in the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance last year when issues arose in town regarding the school budget, development, and municipal tax increases.
Paul Drake, an 18-year resident of Hillsborough who served as a member of the Township Committee from 2004 to 2007, was unanimously elected Vice President. Drake, a Somerset County native, holds a B.S. degree in Environmental Science from Stockton State College and a Masters of City and Regional Planning from the Bloustein School at Rutgers University.
A strong believer in giving back to the community, Drake has served on the Hillsborough Township Planning Board, Zoning Board, Business & Economic Development Commission, Architectural & Site Design Subcommittee, Sustainable Hillsborough Steering Committee, Town Center Subcommittee, Master Plan Subcommittee, and several other Township and County Boards.
Howard Greenberg, who previously served as Treasurer of the Hillsborough Democrat Club, was unanimously elected Treasurer of the Alliance.
The Hillsborough Democratic Alliance holds regular monthly meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at Avalon Assisted Living, 393 Amwell Road in Hillsborough (www.bridgewayseniorcare.com/avalon/index.html), east of Route 206. The next meeting, however, will be held on Wednesday, March 30. Light refreshments will be served at 6:45PM and the meeting, which will begin promptly at 7:00PM and end at 8:30PM, is open to both current and prospective members.
Focusing on transparency and accountability in local government, the Hillsborough Democratic Alliance provides all participants with the opportunity to discuss the issues facing Hillsborough, Somerset County and New Jersey as a whole. The Alliance plans to have many interesting speakers at its monthly meetings in 2011, encouraging like-minded individuals to share in the camaraderie of fellow Democrats.
