FLORENCE: $20,000 cut from fire budget

By Amber Cox
FLORENCE — Following the defeat of Fire District 1 $1.7 million budget, the Township Council, fire chief and representatives from the Board of Fire Commissioners tentatively agreed to cut $20,000 from the fire budget.
Township Administrator Richard Brook said after a budget is voted down the township has 30 days to take formal action to decide what to do.
On March 9, the mayor and two members of the council met with Fire Chief Kevin Mullen and representatives of commissioners to discuss how to cut money out of the budget without reducing services.
The budget, which was defeated Feb. 19, did not call for a tax increase.
The council was set to pass a resolution and hold a public hearing at its regular meeting, March 16 after the Register-News went to press.
