Dr. Seuss’ birthday used in ‘Read Across America’ event
Students at the Woodfern School dressed as book characters at an assembly in celebration of two weeks of Read Across America, centering on the birthday of children’s author Dr. Seuss.
On March 2, students heard electronically from celebrities, such as Justin Beiber and President and Michelle Obama, about their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Students read Green Eggs and Ham from a slide show, led by teacher Ralph Losanno in costume as the grumpy guy.
Students participate in a Woodfern Reading Challenge, where they must read a number of books to add to their class goal. If they do, they can attend a school-wide movie in celebration of reading accomplishments.
Student also created window banners placed in windows throughout the school and created book covers depicting their favorite books and used as bulletin boards or in rooms as decorations.
The principal, Anthony Caparoso, visited all classes to read aloud a favorite book to the students.
