Police seized cocaine and equipment indicating intent to sell the drug in a raid Monday afternoon on South 3rd Avenue.
Two Manville men allegedly in the U.S. illegally were arrested and charged. They are Elias Ramses-Gracida, 27, of South 3rd Avenue and Aracely Sanchez-Lopez, 22, of Knopf Street.
At about 5 p.m. detectives in the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force, along with officers from the Manville Police Department, executed a search warrant on Mr. Ramses-Gracida’s residence.
Detectives seized about 13 grams of cocaine, $200 in cash and drug paraphernalia, described as a digital scale, cutting agent, a grinder and empty plastic bags.
Mr. Ramses-Gracida was found outside the home and was arrested. While detectives were executing the warrant, Mr. Sanchez-Lopez tried to flee, police said. Detectives notified agents with the Newark field office of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Mr. Ramses-Gracida was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute (a third-degree offense) and the lesser charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in Somerset County on $20,000 cash or bond bail.
Mr. Sanchez-Lopez was charged with obstruction, a disorderly persons offense, police said. He was released on his own say-so on the obstruction charge and turned over to ICE agents.
