MONROE — The Monroe Township Library Foundation will host miniature golf in the library on Saturday, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The cost is $5 per person.
”We thought it would be something fun to do when the weather isn’t so good after being cooped up all winter,” said Leah Wagner, assistant director of the library and head of youth services.
There will be 18 holes placed all around the library, and the library will be completely open during the event, which is open to all ages.
”We have been told it will be fine,” Ms. Wagner said with a laugh.
She added, “We thought it was different, just a fun way to tell people that the foundation exists.”
A company from Punta Gorda, Florida, called Library Mini Golf will organize the event.
The company has hosted golf tournaments in libraries and schools from coast to coast. The tournaments are fundraiser opportunities and a chance for local businesses to advertise.
For $500, businesses can sponsor a hole and have their company logo placed on the hole flags or they can place their logo on a tee marker, reads the company’s website, libraryminigolf.org.
Library Mini Golf actually started due to a misnomer. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the newly established Trumbell Library Foundation in Connecticut was searching for a specific mission. Someone said they should host a “Gulf event” to raise funds for hurricane victims, but then another foundation member said, “Golf event? Count me in.”
The foundation then decided to link the idea of a golf fundraiser with its mission as a library, and that’s how the mini golf in the library event was formed, according to the website.
Elaine Nesti, a member of the Monroe Library Foundation, volunteered to organize the event in Monroe.
