Hillsborough couple have been partners in more ways than one for 35 years
Thirty-five years is a long time for a husband and wife to be working together in not only one job, but for most of those years in multiple jobs.
Howard and Janet Rose, who have lived in Hillsborough since 1978, began as a couple as high school educators and as the art/literary magazine advisors at Piscataway High School.
They added clay artists to their resumes and participated in fine art and craft shows throughout the Northeast.
Thirty years ago, they started promoting fine art and crafts shows at Essex and Union County parks. All those years and jobs later, they still like each other and enjoy working together.
The Roses always complemented each other well in their business and school ventures. As clay artists, Howard threw beautiful platters and bowls. Janet threw lightweight tall vases. Neither could do what the other was so successful at creating.
While working together on the art/literary magazine and then later on The Chieftain, Piscataway High School’s newspaper, they each had their areas of expertise Howard as a printer and Janet as an English educator. Again, neither could achieve what the other was so successful at accomplishing with the students.
Today, 30 years after they began Rose Squared Productions, Inc., named after Howard’s grandmother, Rose Rose, they are still complementing each other’s skills with success and with humor.
The 30th anniversary celebration of Rose Squared Productions, Inc. begins on April 9-10 with Fine Art and Crafts at the Westfield Armory and continues through the spring with shows at Verona Park in May and Brookdale Park in June. For information, go to www.rosesquared.com.
