Littlebrook Elementary School will host its first Girls Night Out: A Celebration of Girlhood on Tuesday, March 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the all purpose room.
Girls Night Out is open to all Littlebrook girls in grades 3, 4 and 5 as well as their mothers (or significant female adults, i.e. grandmothers, aunts, or big sisters).
During this evening, they will discuss strategies to assist girls in developing assertiveness, positive self image, and confidence. Parents will receive information on anti-bullying initiatives, as well as tips on how to effectively communicate with their daughters as the girls enter the pre-teen years.
From 6:10-6:30, participants will hear from Jennifer Walters, Littlebrook’s school counselor, about the "Girl World" program at Littlebrook. "Girl World" is a two-month intensive group program open to girls in grades 3-5. The "Girl World" groups met for two months in January and February and focused on changing friendships, coping with peer pressure, and self-esteem.
In addition, Amy Wargo and Kelly Riely, teachers at John Witherspoon Middle School, will be sharing information with parents and students about the girls’ groups at the middle school.
The majority of the evening will be spent watching the American Girl movie "Chrissa Stands Strong," which deals with girl bullying, teasing, cliques and peer pressure.
Parents and girls will be provided with extension activities to do at home together after the movie.
