We had a lot of speakers at our March meeting due to the cancellation of the February meeting. Lou Fischer spoke about the Buy-a-Brick program currently in progress at the high school to fund a new sign. They are soliciting alumni, organizations and businesses to assist in the funding. This is a way to memorialize your class year, name or family name as graduates of Manville High School. The club joined many of the organizations and donated a brick.
   • Manville Police Detective William Yankoski explained the newest scam aimed at seniors. Be vigilant when you receive a phone call late at night from a police officer requesting bail money for a family member and that the money should be sent Western Union. Police officers do not call regarding bail money and if you receive such a call, contact the Manville Police Department.
   • Manville Municipal Alliance coordinator Stephanie Cornelson asked the club what types of programs they would like to see instituted. Previously, the alliance did some tech sessions which we found very informative and look forward to another one.
   • Lisa Gericknot, tax collector, reminded us that the May 1 tax bill will have your rebate applied and you will receive the bill in the mail in April. Also, April 1 is the deadline for a tax appeal.
   • Lisa Carra, manager of the Manville Senior Center, reiterated the benefits of the daily nutrition program at Manville Fire House No. 1 and talked about the daily activities and programs. Lynn Whitenight, exercise coordinator for the Manville Recreation Department talked about the exercise programs for seniors, Walk-Chair and Light Weights.
   • Phil Petrone reminded everyone that the VFW is now the official voting place for the entire town. All the districts have been consolidated into one building. The school board, primary and general elections will all be at the VFW.
   • Bill Evans was temporarily installed as acting treasurer until the return of Sandy Filippini. The annual picnic is scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 at the Polish Falcons in Hillsborough. There will be more information regarding the picnic at the April 14 meeting.
