Somerset County Democrats will hold their nominating convention from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Bound Brook Elks Club lodge at 305 East 2nd St.
Democrats will vote to place party candidates on the ballot for county freeholder and state Assembly and Senate in districts 16 and 22. The convention will report on candidate screening, and recommendations for the slate will be reviewed. Nominations will be accepted from the floor. Candidates who have not been screened are encouraged to submit resumes in advance for distribution to county committee members.
Candidates will address the gathering and meet attendees. Elected Democratic local, state and county officials are expected to attend.
Breakout sessions will be held to teach more about the functions of the County Committee and how to benefit more fully from available resources. The sessions will include information on specific functions, including Young Democrats, Woman’s Federation and labor relations.
"As the resurgence of the Democratic Party in Somerset County continues, we will have an energized party fully committed to electing the best candidates in November," said Peg Schaffer, county chair. "The convention is step one in the process and our intention is to provide Somerset County Democrats with the tools and support necessary to be successful."
Anyone is invited to attend, but voting is limited to elected county committee members. For information on the convention, contact Joseph Kostecki at 848-448-8428 or [email protected]. For information on the county Democratic Committee, visit www.somersetcountydemocrats.com.
