A new engineer has been hired in Princeton Borough to fill a vacancy on the municipal staff.
The position came available after the death of Borough Engineer Chris Budzinski, who passed away in September after a heart attack while golfing.
Jack West, a Toms River resident, completed his first week on the job last week. With 32 years of experience in engineering, always wanted to be an engineer and likes seeing things getting built, especially parks.
"After I graduated high school and it was time to decide what to do, my father suggested engineering," he said.
Mr. West said he is excited about all that is going on in Princeton.
"It is nice to see that something is happening in this economy, where most places nothing is happening, there is a lot of activity here, which makes the job interesting."
Mr. West will have large shoes to fill.
"Losing Chris as our engineer was one of the most difficult things I’ve personally had to deal with in work," said Robert Bruschi, borough administrator. "He was such a driven personality, always wanting to get the job done and done correctly. We are very excited to have Jack join our staff. He is a very competent manager as well as engineer. Because of his past experiences we are also comfortable that he will be able come up to speed very quickly on what the issues are in the borough."
Mr. West’s most recent position was a senior civil engineer at SRA International in Linwood, where he researched airport pavement. Prior to that, he spent 16 years with Robbinsville Township as a consulting engineer, township administrator and director of community development.
One of the highlights during his tenure there was Robbinsville Town Center and "seeing that go from its initial planning stages through construction," he said.
He is married and has three adult children.
