FLORENCE – The Board of Education will be holding a special meeting along with its regular meeting to discuss the 2011-2012 fiscal year budget.
Administrative Secretary Linda Garganio said a special budget meeting will be held tonight, Thursday, at in the Roebling School’s All Purpose room at 7 p.m. for the board to get further public input on its budget.
The public budget hearing will be held at the board’s regular meeting on Monday at Florence Memorial High School.
The proposed budget includes the elimination of seven staff positions and a tax hike for the district. The $28 million budget is calling for $890,000 to be cut, according to Business Administrator Bruce Benedetti.
The tax levy for the budget is proposed at $16.9 million with a tax rate of $1.35 per $100 assessed. The owner of an averaged assessed home at $231,400 would be paying $3,124 in taxes for the new school year.
The district received $8,783,062 in state aid, an increase of $238,325 from last year.
