BUCKS COUNTY — Ten candidates will compete for five available seats on the New Hope-Solebury School Board of Directors in the Bucks County primary on May 17.
Also in the May primary, four candidates have filed to run for three seats on the New Hope Borough Council, and two candidates will vie for an open seat on the Solebury Township Board of Supervisors.
In the school district race, the 10 candidates who are vying for the five four-year terms will be listed on both Republican and Democratic ballots.
The candidates are incumbent Janice Solkov-Kaufman, of Upper York Road; Kurt A. Zander, of Riverstone Circle; Peter Malamis, of Stoney Hill Road; Amy Parker, of Greenhill Road; Jonathan A. Adar, of Yearling Drive; Susan Copeland Atkinson, of West Bridge Street; Joseph Harraka, of Hidden Valley Drive; Gloria Carlineo, of Meadowview Road; Valerie Mitchell, of Chapel Road; and Joel M. Tealer, of Meadowview Road.
Alison Kingsley, of South Main Street, is the only candidate running for a single two-year term on the board.
Incumbents Laurence R. Fieber, Laura Irish Hefty, Rebecca R. Malamis, Christopher Nally and Genevieve F. Wahlgren did not file petitions to run again.
IN THE NEW HOPE municipal race, the only Republican who filed to run in the primary is Nick Gialias, of Madison Court. Mr. Gialias, who owns The Logan Inn on West Ferry Street, is going up against three Democrats.
Two of the Democrats are incumbents who are seeking re-election, Geraldine Delevich, of Old Mill Road, and Rey Velasco, of Old York Road. The third Democratic candidate is Carl Glassman, of Old Mill Road, owner of the Wedgewood Inn on West Bridge Street.
Longtime council member Richard Hirschfield, a Democrat, did not file to run in the primary. He was elected to the council in 1999 and served several terms as council president.
IN SOLEBURY, only one seat on the township’s Board of Supervisors is up for grabs.
Michael A. Kennerley did not file to run for re-election. Hoping to take his place on the board are: Stanley A. Marcus, of Devonshire Drive, and Paul Cosdon, of Sugan Close Road.
The polling place for New Hope Borough residents is the New Hope Eagle Fire Company, 46 N. Sugan Road.
Solebury has four polling locations.
Residents of Lower District No. 1 will cast their ballots at the Solebury United Methodist Church, 2536 Aquetong Road.
The polling place for Lower District No. 2 is located at the Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1680 Aquetong Road.
Residents of the Middle District will vote at the township’s municipal building, 3092 Sugan Road.
The polling place for the Upper District is located in the gymnasium of the Solebury School, 6832 Phillips Mill Road. Voters should enter at the athletic center driveway.
