Robert Brackett, Lawrence Board of Education (BOE) member, submitted his resignation last week to board President Laura Waters.
Mr. Brackett said his commitments at work are the reason for his resignation, which was effective March 14. During his two-year Lawrence Board tenure, Mr. Brackett served on the Finance as well as the Community Relations and Legislative Affairs committees.
”We’ll miss Bob’s commitment to all children and commonsensical approach to governance, particularly in regards to facilities management. We were lucky to have him for two years and wish him the very best in his expanding career responsibilities,” Dr. Waters said.
The school board is seeking applicants who are interested in serving on the board and filling the vacancy. The term of the position to be filled extends until the April 2012 school election, at which time the newly-appointed board member may run for election.
Qualifications for serving on the board are: He/she is a citizen of the United States of America; must be at least 18 years of age; must be able to read and write; has been a resident of the municipality from which he/she is to be elected for at least one year preceding the date of the election; not disqualified as a voter pursuant to R.S.19:4-1; a registered voter in the district.
Lawrence citizens interested in filling the bard vacancy should submit their resume or letter of intent to Board Secretary Thomas Eldridge, Lawrence Township Public Schools, 2565 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville 08648 by 4 p.m. on Friday,April 8.
The process for the board to select a member from the applicant pool is that the board will interview applicants in an open public meeting the evening of April 11, at a time to be determined, in the Lawrence High School library at 2525 Princeton Pike. It is anticipated that the board will select a candidate that night and that the new member will be sworn in at the April 2011 reorganization meeting, at a date to be determined.
