The Burlington County Sheriff’s Department will hold its annual Senior Citizens Police Academy on six consecutive Tuesdays beginning April 5 and running through May 10.
The program, which focuses on safety issues important to seniors, is free of charge. Those interested in attending should call the Sheriff’s Community Services Unit at (609) 265-3788.
"Seniors come away from this experience with a wealth of information or how they can better protect themselves from violence or accidents, not to mention consumer fraud," said Sheriff Jean Stanfield.
Classes will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Emergency Services Training Center in Westampton, and will include information on home security, fire prevention, the Project Lifesaver tracking program, defensive driving, consumer frauds and cons, health issues, the court system, and emergency and 2-1-1 CONTACT help lines.
Attendees will also tour the county’s Central Communications operation and the 911 call center, the firing range and simulated firearms training, and K9 and SWAT team demonstrations.
