SOLEBURY: Route 32 bridge work to begin Monday

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced that construction will begin Monday (March 28) to replace the Route 32 (River Road) bridge over the Delaware Canal in Solebury Township.
The new bridge is expected to open by October.
During construction to replace the 79-year-old bridge Route 32 will be closed and detoured over Route 202 and Route 179.
Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.
The existing Route 32 bridge over the Delaware Canal is located in the Delaware Canal State Park.
The existing structurally deficient one-span steel I-beam bridge was built in 1932. It will be replaced with a new one-span pre-stressed concrete box beam structure, which will be 26 feet wide and 33 feet long.
The new bridge will include architectural treatments to the railings to reflect the camelback arch trusses of the original historic canal bridges.
The new bridge also will have a 7-foot clearance for the canal towpath under the bridge at the request of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
The towpath will remain open during construction.
Eastern Highway Specialist, Inc., of Wilmington, Del., is the general contractor on the $1,217,312 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
