Police say he ran down someone after confrontation at a party
A Neshanic Station area man has been indicted with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly running down a man with whom he had a dispute at a party in Bridgewater Township in the early morning of Jan. 23.
A grand jury returned the indictment March 24 against Taylor McFadden, 21, of Grandview Drive, Branchburg Township. He was also indicted for third-degree possession of a weapon.
Bridgewater police responded on Jan. 23 to a 9-1-1 call about a pedestrian being hit by an auto near the intersection of Cain Court and Cross Road. Police maintain that Mr. McFadden laid in wait for the 24-year-old male victim, whose name is being withheld, after a confrontation at a party on Cain Court.
Police said Mr. McFadden and the victim were involved in a confrontation between guests at the party, and he was removed from the residence. Police said Mr. McFadden and an acquaintance sat in his parked 2000 Chevrolet Blazer on Cain Court until a short time later, when the victim and others left the party and walked across Cain Road to “investigate an idling vehicle they believed to be occupied by the defendant,” police said.
As the victim and his friend approached the parked SUV, which had its headlights on, the Blazer accelerated and hit the victim, throwing him onto the hood and into the windshield, police said. The man suffered
Bridgewater detectives identified Mr. McFadden as the driver, and he was taken into custody at his home at about 9:30 a.m. without incident, police said. The Blazer, with damage to the windshield, was found at the home, too, police said.
Mr. McFadden was released from the Somerset County Jail on a $250,000 bond on Jan. 27.
Prosector Geoffrey Soriano said the attempted murder charge has a sentencing range of 10 to 20 years in jail, with 85% to be served without parole. The second charge holds the possibility of three to five years in jail.
