Is Your Canine a Good Citizen or a Holy Terror?

People for Animals
Take part in our Canine Good Citizen Testing Event to find out if your doggy has good manners or if he needs an etiquette lesson or two.
In line with our mission to promote responsible dog ownership, People For Animals will be hosting American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluation tests for a donation of $20.00 per dog. Testing takes place at our Annual Walk for Paws on May 1, 2011 from 10 am to 2 pm at
Nomahegan Park in Cranford, New Jersey.
The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to recognize dogs that have good manners at home and in the community. This rapidly growing nationally recognized program stresses responsible dog ownership for owners and basic training and good manners for dogs.
All dogs who pass the 10 step CGC test may receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club for an additional fee payable to AKC.
Prior to taking the CGC test, owners and their dogs are encouraged to attend a basic training or CGC prep class to practice the test criteria. The 10 test items include:
Accepting a Friendly Stranger
Sitting Politely for Petting
Appearance and Grooming
Out for a Walk (walking on loose lead)
Walking Through a Crowd
Sit and Down on Command and Staying in Place
Coming When Called
Reaction to Another Dog
Reaction to Distraction
Supervised Separation
Anyone wishing to participate in a CGC evaluation must pre-register by visiting http://www.pfaonline.org/2011/walk-for-paws/ and completing the Walk for Paws CGC Release Form. Additional details on the testing criteria can be found at http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/
All dogs, including purebred and mixed breeds, are encouraged to participate.
