Township
Police are asking if anyone has information about an accident on March 5 at the intersection of Witherspoon Street and Valley Road. At 7:51 a.m., police responded to an accident at the intersection with injuries. Julia T. Desanctis, 45, of Skillman, was driving south on Mt. Lucas Road and proceeded straight through the intersection. Katrien Ratzan, 44, of Princeton, was traveling east on Valley Road and continued straight through the intersection, when the two cars collided. Both drivers said they had a green traffic light. Ms. Ratzan complained of pain in her neck and left knee, and was taken for medical treatment. Both cars were towed from the scene. Motor vehicle charges are pending based on investigative findings.
Kaleanne Buco Esquerra, 21, of Princeton, was charged with a warrant arrest. At 7:26 p.m. on March 24, police located Ms. Esquerra at her residence in Princeton Community Village. She had an active warrant out of Princeton Borough for $145. She was arrested and later released after a family member posted bail.
Divine Alcantara, 22, of Princeton, was charged with a warrant arrest. At 3:21 p.m. on March 25, police responded to a report of a verbal dispute at a residence on William Patterson Court. Upon arrival, found one of the individuals, identified as Ms. Alcanatara, had two active criminal warrants, one for $914 out of Lawrence and one for $300 out of Seaside Heights. She was arrested and turned over to Lawrence police after she was unable to post bail.
Najh Bestman, 22, of Staten Island, NY, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, speeding, falsely incriminating another and hindering apprehension. At 3:02 a.m. on Sunday, police stopped Mr. Bestman on Princeton-Kingston Road at Locust Lane. Police say he told them he did not have any identification on him and then identified himself as another person, along with the date of birth and name of that person. A computer check revealed that a valid New York driver’s license with the given information. While speaking with the driver, police detected the odor of alcohol and arrested him after they administered a field sobriety test. At police headquarters, he was identified by fingerprint identification system. He was released to a friend after she posted $2,500 bail.
Plainsboro
Police are investigating a reported theft that occurred between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on March 17. A student of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North reported that an unknown person stole a black iPod and black Samsung cell phone from an unlocked gym locker inside the gym during an after school function. The value of the stolen items is about $400.
Police are investigating a false public alarm and false reports. Unknown people called 9-1-1 several times between 7:22 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Police determined the call was a recorded message stating that an unknown male had guns and to send help immediately. The recording stated that the victims were located at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Police traced the call to an address at Ravens Crest Drive. Police responded to the address but did not find any suspicious people or activity. Dobbs Ferry Police were contacted in reference to the calls and investigation revealed they were unfounded.
Montgomery
Police are investigating a theft at Montgomery High School. At 12:47 p.m. on March 25, police responded to a report that someone stole her daughter’s Apple iTouch, worth $250, from an unsecured knapsack in the girl’s team locker room on March 15.
Cathy Esposito, 53, of Princeton, was charged with careless driving and driving without a registration. At 6:17 p.m. on March 25, police responded to a car crash at Montgomery Shopping Center. Ashit Patel, 44, of Hillsborough, was stopped for traffic while exiting the shopping center when he was rear-ended by Ms. Esposito. She said she did not notice that traffic had stopped in front of her.
Peter Laupa, 17, of Belle Mead, was charged with careless driving and failure to maintain his lane. At 9:54 p.m. on March 25, police responded to a single-car accident on Cherry Valley Road near Birchwood Drive. On arrival, police saw a pickup truck in a wooded area off the eastbound lane of Cherry Valley Road. The driver, Mr. Laupa, had minor cuts to his hands and was transported for medical treatment. An investigation found that Mr. Laupa was traveling westbound when his car left the road and hit a mailbox. He then re-entered the westbound lane, crossed over the centerline into the eastbound lane and hit a tree. His car was towed from the scene.
Police are investigating a theft at Princeton Fitness and Wellness in Princeton North Shopping Center. At 5:38 p.m. on Saturday, a resident of Princeton Township reported someone stole his wedding band, valued at $626, from the locker room.
Sean M. Begley, 20, of Bridgewater, was charged with underage possession of alcoholic beverages, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, drugs in a motor vehicle and failure to inspect. At 1:59 p.m. on Sunday, police stopped Mr. Begley on Route 206 for an inspection violation. During the stop, police said they observed alcoholic beverages on the back seat and found he possessed marijuana and paraphernalia. He was arrested and later released, pending court.
Michael D. Rita, 48, of Princeton, was charged with careless driving. At 11:40 p.m. on March 23, police and emergency responders responded to an overturned vehicle on Cherry Valley Road west of Ironwood Road. Mr. Rita was driving west on Cherry Valley Road when he lost control of his car, while attempting to avoid striking a deer in the roadway. The car swerved into an embankment and then overturned. No injuries were reported. The car was towed from the scene.
Cesar Gonzalez-Vanes, 24, of Princeton, was charged with hindering apprehension, driving without a license, driving while suspended and having a loud exhaust. At 12:11 a.m. on Tuesday, police stopped Mr. Vanes on Mt. Lucas Road for having a loud exhaust. During the investigation, police believed the driver provided a false name and requested a Spanish-speaking officer to assist with translation. Police identified that Mr. Vanes had a suspended license. He was arrested and later released, pending court.
