— Solebury School will continue its Creative Thinkers Series on April 6 at 7 p.m. with Yvonne Thornton, the author of “The Ditchdigger’s Daughters,” which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and adapted into a movie. Her new memoir, “Something to Prove,” was released in December.
Dr. Thornton is a double-Board certified specialist in obstetrics, gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine.
She is a consultant in perinatology and clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at New York Medical College in New York and an independent director on the Board of IntegreMed America.
Dr. Thornton is the first black woman in the United States to be board-certified in High-Risk Obstetrics.
In 1997, she became the first African-American woman to be invited to become an oral examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Life Fellow of the New York Obstetrical Society.
Recently, she was named one of five African-American women to watch in 2011.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the John D. Brown Athletic Center on the school’s Phillips Mill Road campus.

Solebury School has teamed up with Hamilton’s Grill Room for a buffet dinner and book signing for the three featured chefs, Gabrielle Hamilton, Melissa Hamilton, and Max Hansen (all Solebury School graduates), on April 10 from 4-6 p.m. at Hamilton’s Grill Room, 8 Coryell St., Lambertville. Spirits have been donated by Phillips Fine Wines in Stockton. This fundraiser will help to support Solebury School Scholarships. Tickets are $50 per person.
Ms. Hamilton will cook signature dishes from her New York City restaurant, Prune. Ms. Hamilton will serve desserts from her latest Canal House Cookbook Series, Canal House Cooking Volume No. 6, The Grocery Store, and Mr. Hansen will showcase his newest smoked salmon recipes from his book, “Smoked Salmon, Delicious Innovative Recipes.”
