PRINCETON Valley Road was closed for several hours on Monday while firefighters worked to put out a fire in a house.
Princeton Fire Department Chief Dan Tomalin said the company was called at 12:40 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters a lot of smoke from the bottom of the house. The fire had started in a crawlspace underneath the first floor.
”It was a particularly stubborn fire and hard to get to,” he said. “We had to cut holes in the first floor to get at the fire.”
It took about a half-hour to contain, he said. By 2 p.m., firefighters had declared the structure stable and were pouring more water to make sure the fire did not re-ignite. The fire did not spread to nearby homes.
The cause has not yet been determined, he said.Chief Tomalin said no one was inside the home at the time. One firefighter sustained a minor hand injury.
Mercer Engine Co. No. 3, Princeton Hook and Ladder, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, and companies from Plainsboro, Rocky Hill and Hopewell also assisted on the scene.
