HILLSBOROUGH: Candidate Haley supports full-day kindergarten

   To the editor:
The Board of Education is the most difficult job one can volunteer to serve on. It is a position that everyone in the town has an opinion on; whether their children attend our schools or not, because they are stakeholders as taxpayers. I am an independent thinker, who will challenge ideas and will not be pressured into making decisions that I do not feel are appropriate.
Studies show that children who participate in full-day kindergarten programs learn mathematics, literacy and socialization at a much higher rate than those who participate in half-day programs. This is why I support a full-day kindergarten program in Hillsborough that would be subsidized by parents whose children would participate.
I also agree with Superintendent Schiff that getting our elementary Spanish language program back into compliance is critical. With the population growth rates in the Latin American community, our children need to be prepared to enter the world as bilingual.
Feel free to reach out to me with your questions and concerns at [email protected] or by visiting my blog at www.haleyforboe.blogspot.com. New Voice, New Ideas. I would appreciate your support on April 27.
