Changes made to the New Jersey legislative districts have one longtime assemblyman excited about the challenge.
Republican Assemblyman Joseph Malone, who lives in Bordentown City, said he is filing his petitions for Monday to run in New Jersey’s June primary election.
The redistricting is moving Mr. Malone out of his familiar territory in District 30 to District 7, which covers a majority of the riverfront towns in Burlington County.
Bordentown City, Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro are all being moved out of District 30 to District 7.
Mr. Malone has been part of the General Assembly since 1993.
”I’m actually pretty excited because it will be the first time I’ll be able to represent communities that I’ve represented all of my life,” Mr. Malone said in regards to the redistricting.
He said that Bordentown is such a riverfront community and with the new placement he looks forward to serving the other towns that are similar to Bordentown.
”I always approach these things from the same standpoint, I’m an elected official and I try to do a good job for all of the people I represent,” he said. “I feel very, very comfortable representing the riverfront towns.”
Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, Chesterfield, Fieldsboro, New Hanover and North Hanover are all part of the 30th district but come November that will change.
New Hanover and North Hanover will be moved to the 12th District along with Chesterfield.
Florence is maintaining its place in the 7th District. Mansfield and Springfield are also maintaining their places in the 8th District.
If Mr. Malone is re-elected he will continue representing Bordentown City, Bordentown Township and Fieldsboro along with Beverly City, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson Township, Delanco Township, Delran Township, Edgewater Park Township, Florence Township, Moorestown Township, Mount Laurel Township, Palmyra Borough, Riverside Township, Riverton Borough and Willingboro Township.
