HIGHTSTOWN Former East Windsor Councilman Walter T. Daniels’ court date was pushed back at the last minute to April 13, an employee at the Hightstown Municipal Court said Wednesday.
Mr. Daniels was scheduled to appear in Municipal Court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to respond to charges related to his March 1 arrest in Hightstown, including driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit breath samples, reckless driving and careless driving. Less than two hours before he was scheduled to appear, however, his court date was rescheduled for 6 p.m. April 13.
The clerk at the Municipal Court did not provide an explanation for the postponement. Mr. Daniel’s attorney, Mark Shane of Shane and White, was not immediately available for comment.
Mr. Daniels’ court appearance had been scheduled for Wednesday after it was first postponed from March 16.
The then-deputy mayor resigned from the council on March 22 after several media outlets obtained the police report of his arrest, which stated that Mr. Daniels asked his arresting officers to contact their superiors to get his charges reduced.
