PRINCETON: Witherspoon students make cranes, raise funds for Japan

During the last week of March, John Witherspoon students worked together to show their support for victims of Japan’s tsunami and earthquake that occurred on March 11.
Students signed a banner of “Hope” with messages of support. The banner was hand-delivered to the people of Japan last week by the parents of an 8th grade student.
A bake sale was hosted by members of the Do Something Club and 6th and 8th grade civics classes. The bake sale raised about $500. All proceeds will be given to Red Cross Japan Relief.
A group of 8th grade students led by Warren Saengtawesin and Jade Levine created more than 1,000 origami cranes. The cranes will be displayed throughout the classrooms of John Witherspoon as a sign of support and hope. The cranes will be given to the cause, “Students Rebuild,” which will donate $2 per crane to the rebuilding effort in Japan.
Together, students raised more than $2,000 for this rebuilding effort.
On April 11, students and faculty will wear the colors red and white along with wristbands to mark the one-month anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami. Wristbands are being sold until April 11th in the Commons of the school. All proceeds will be donated to Red Cross Japan relief.
