Staff music show
funds scholarship
   Thursday, April 14 — The Hillsborough Grand Staff Ensemble will have its spring concert at 7 p.m. at Auten Road Intermediate School, 281 Auten Road. Suggested donations are $5 for adults, $2 for students/seniors and $10 for a family.
   Proceeds are awarded to a Hillsborough High School senior planning to pursue a degree in music.
   The Grand Staff ensemble is made up of staff and friends of the school district, under the direction of Nancy Gallagher and Gary Smith.

   Christian author
will sign her books
   Thursday, April 14 — Book signing and open house from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Avalon Assisting Living at Hillsborough, 393 Amwell Road. Meet Christian fiction author Carrie Turansky, a Lawrenceville resident and author of “”“”“”stories with characters who face the challenges of life with God’s help and direction.

   Kids can learn
about flag squad
   Friday, April 15 — Parents and students of current seventh graders or older are invited to learn about the Hillsborough Winterguard from 7-9 p.m. at Auten Road School. Students can try their hand at spinning flags and meet Guard Director Joe Dobis, his staff and current members.
   The event includes a performance of the Winterguard’s award-winning show, “The Leaves Will Be Greener.”

Learn tips to talking
with aging parents
   Tuesday, April 19 — Laurie Rowe from the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services will talk about “Five Secrets to Starting (and Finishing) Tough Conversations” about decisions on eldercare plans at Emeritus at Hillsborough senior living community, at 5:30 p.m. Dessert, coffee and tours will be available. Free.
   People personally involved in the care of older family members will benefit, as will anyone who anticipates having to make decisions involving an older relative.

   Dine and help
autism research
   Thursday, April 21 — Applebee’s, located at Hillsborough Promenade on Route 206 at Triangle Road, is sponsoring a fundraiser for the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) from noon to 9 p.m. Dine at Applebee’s and 10 percent of your bill will be donated to OAR.    Rotary Club
sponsors egg hunt
   Saturday, April 23 — Free Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hillsborough, for children 8 and younger at Pheasants Landing, 311 Amwell Road. Hunt begins at 11 a.m. Bring a basket to collect eggs, all of which are filled with a treat (plus some “golden egg” prizes). Bring your camera for photos with the Easter bunny.

   Used clothing drive
at Woods Rd. School
   Saturday, April 30 — Woods Road School will hold a used clothing drive from 2-6 p.m. in the school parking lot. Proceeds will go towards the 4th grade party.
   To be collected are wearable clothing (men, women and children), shoes, belts, handbags, linens, stuffed animals and hard toys that can be put into cardboard boxes no bigger than 2-by-2 feet.
Temple Beth-El
to hold blood drive

Jewish School
to hold open house
   Friday, May 15 — The Congregation Kehilat Shalom religious school is accepting enrollment for the fall and will hold an open house from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the school at 253 Belle Mead–Griggstown Road, Belle Mead.
   Meet Rabbi Susan and principal Shari Rothstein, take a tour of the school, visit with congregants over bagels and coffee, and get a car wash from Kehi-Loft (grade 8-12) students.
   The school explores the Jewish culture, arts and sprituality ), along with teaching about Israel and the Hebrew language.

   Garden club to sell
plants at meeting
   Thursday, May 26 — The Neshanic Garden Club will hold its monthly meeting at 10 a.m. at the Station House on Olive Street, Neshanic Station. Past President Jean Stives will present the monthly study on irises.
   “”The main event will be a plant auction of items brought in by club members. Proceeds will help the club continue its gardening efforts. Prospective members are encouraged to attend. Call Diana Reinhardt, 908-369-4362 for information.
   Continuing events
   Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe and confidential atmosphere.
   Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the sunroom at Emeritus Senior Living, 600 Auten Road, Hillsborough. All are welcome. Call 431-1300 if attending.
